There are many habits to help you lose weight, some are better than others though. Here are a few of the best, effective, and easy habits to adopt when trying to shed off some extra weight.

1. Don’t eat too close to bed time

Don’t eat anything 4 hours before going to bed. If you are extremely hungry and have to have a small snack before bed, try to avoid salty or sugary foods. Eat a fruit or a veggie instead if you can’t wait until breakfast. While sleeping, your metabolism is a lot lower and so food isn’t burned as fast so the calories consumed are stored as fat.

2. If you are hungry, eat first, then go grocery shopping.

This one changed my life completely. I started noticing I bought what I was craving in that moment and didn’t bother to buy the staple food that I needed at the house. I ended up buying more food in the long run and wasted quite a bit of money.

3. Eat slower

Eating slower, taking smaller bites, and chewing more each help with digestion because it’s easier for the body to process smaller bits of food. In addition, it’s better eating food slower because you can truly judge when you’re starting to feel full. If you eat large portions quickly though, you could overeat. Some say a good exercise to practice stopping eating when you’re full is to eat with a blindfold so you can’t tell how much food you have left which is a factor we generally use to determine if we are done with our food or not.

4. Drink lots of water

Drinking more water will make you feel fuller faster. Sometimes it can even wash away your whole appetite! Don’t rely on water to fill you up every time though, your body needs calories too.

5. Don’t skip breakfast

Skipping breakfast will set your day up on an empty stomach with no energy. Food gives you energy and going without it will make you feel tired and weak. Don’t try and make it till lunch, at least start the day off with a light meal. More light meals and more healthy snacking throughout the day will keep you feeling fuller longer too.
